Welsh Heritage Day

First Saturday of June Annually

This celebration honors early Welsh miners, and remembers times, trades and a Company town. Although few descendants remain in Black Diamond, the town was founded primarily by Welsh miners. Welsh immigrants worked in the underground coal mines from the time the coal company started in 1882.

Since the overwhelming success of our first Welsh Heritage Day in 1998 (drawing around 200 people), the Black Diamond Historical Society has made it a yearly event. We partner with the Puget Sound Welsh Association to present an entertaining and educational program. Tea, coffee, scones, cookies and Welsh cakes are usually available in the kitchen.

This is a great time to view our Welsh Heritage displays, photos and memorabilia. It is also a great time to meet people who are of Welsh descendant and learn about their culture, language and customs.
